Thank you to all our lovely patients for remaining loyal throughout a somewhat uncertain year. 2021 was quite a year, not just the disruption of Covid but with many exciting changes at Walker and Campbell.
The move to a private practice
On November 5th 2021, we celebrated the first anniversary of becoming a private practice. We now have greater professional freedom allowing us to spend more time with each patient. We feel very proud to be giving everyone the very best level of care.
Our EyeCare Plan has been very well received, with around 85% of people signing up. The benefits include unlimited access to all eye care. Additional appointments like OCT or Optomap scans and emergencies are all included. A child can go free (under 21 yrs) on an adult plan, or we have a Family Plan offering complimentary eye care for the whole family. A loyalty bonus is given when glasses are purchased.
And, as part of our move to private practice, we’ve updated our uniforms. We hope you like them as much as we do!
Introducing Optomap
In June 2021, we made a huge investment in an Optomap Ultrawide retinal camera. This impressive technology allows us to take high-resolution images of 82% of the retina, something no other imaging device can. Optomap is now an integral part of every eye examination. Since we have started using it, we have detected five retinal detachments; conditions which would most certainly have led to blindness if not caught so quickly.
Goodbyes and hellos
In 2021 we waved a fond farewell to a few long-standing members of staff who have retired. We wish Helen Broadbent, Betina Edgington and Elvire Small well. We have also welcomed Susan Oldfield, Nicola Pearson, and Jackie Powell in their place.
The coming year
In 2022 we aim to introduce a system that will allow you to book your eye examinations online. We are also hoping to refurbish the dispensing area. Doing any work on a building that dates back to the 1200s is always rather nerve-wracking – so watch this space.
